In this advanced ceramics course, we will explore established and innovative hand-building methods to create an intricate and charming garden sculpture. We will guide you in crafting ceramic totems in a welcoming environment.

This totem workshop is designed for all skill levels, from beginners to advanced participants, providing instruction on the skills, techniques, and concepts necessary to craft your own unique garden totem. We will assist you in developing and realizing your creative vision. Each participant will create eight to ten ceramic totem pieces for their home or garden. 

Please bring your sketches and ideas, and we will work together to bring your vision to life. Beginners are encouraged to start with simpler designs.

The course will begin with mastering the tools and techniques for creating the various components of your totem.  We will then incorporate painting n carving techniques, culminating in the assembly of a beautiful garden sculpture.

Sleight of Hand: India’s Handcrafted Textiles and Her Artisans

Sunaina SUNEJA graduated from AES in 1975 and has been working with India’s handcrafted textiles for over 35 years, evolving into a Collector of Memories.

In a 4-part series and three guided visits, Sunaina narrates the background and history of some of India’s textiles through her personal stories, combining tradition with contemporary design. To each session, she brings examples of relevant textiles to ensure participants a tactile experience and a visual treat.

• An Introduction to Indian Textiles.
• KHADI, the handspun, handwoven fabric of peace, was advocated by Mahatma Gandhi, during India’s freedom struggle.
•  INDIGO, its inherent magic and romance, captured through photographs and samples of different techniques of indigo dyeing and printing will also be displayed.
• PHULKARi, the vibrant embroidery of Punjab and the exclusive story of the revival of its traditional technique

VISITS :

GANDHI SMRITI  is the Memorial-Museum dedicated to the Life and message of Mahatma Gandhi , through photographs, newspaper articles of his time, dioramas as well as the Eternal Gandhi Multimedia Museum.

It is here that he spent the last 144 days of his life and was assassinated  on January 30, 1948.

Sunaina has dedicated over three decades working with KHADI, the homespun cloth Mahatma Gandhi advocated during India’s freedom struggle and it is with that lens that she will walk participants of this guided visit through the Museum.

This course is designed to provide a strong and practical foundation in classical Vedic Astrology through a clear, structured, and application-oriented approach. The course begins with an in-depth understanding of the 12 Zodiac Signs, exploring their lords, inherent qualities, elements, classifications, gender principles, odd–even functionality, and the logic behind these divisions. Students are then guided through the 12 Houses, covering their classifications, core significations, formation principles, and fixed results, with interpretation techniques using both Indian and Western horoscope formats. These fundamentals help participants understand how life events are promised within a horoscope. The course further explores the 9 Planets, explaining their natural characteristics, fixed significations, planetary friendships, benefic and malefic roles, dignities, special aspects, and functional behavior across different ascendants. A key focus of the program is the Golden Rule of Prediction, which teaches the combined application of houses, house lords, and significators to judge whether an event is truly indicated. The course concludes with an introduction to dasha systems and planetary transits for timing life events. Nearly half the course is devoted to hands-on horoscope analysis using real charts, ensuring practical learning. Mr. Gaurav has 30 years of experience in mentoring and teaching.

This activity will involve learning the art of Tarot Card reading. Understanding the meaning of the cards and then learning to predict through a Tarot Card spread. Tarot cards consist of 78 cards. 56 cards are called Minor Arcanas, and 22 cards are called Major Arcanas. This activity will help you bring your focus to the energies that nature provides and connect with them. This is a fun activity that helps you understand and harness your strengths and feel balanced

Plan- 

Each session will start with a deep breathing exercise for 2 minutes to get centered. The instructor will start by explaining about Tarot Cards and it's contents. There will be a spread done each class to explain it to the participants. The instructor will explain the four suits(14 cards each), also known as Minor Arcanas, and it's meaning. Each class will be based on a suit, like wands, swords, coins,  pentacles, and Cups. Once the concept of understanding meanings is understood, the participants will be asked to answer, and they can raise any clarifying questions to clear any doubts, which will conclude with each participant doing a spread and understanding the meaning.

The instructor will introduce the participants to the Major Arcanas(22cards)in the last three days. In the final two days, each participant will be assisted by the instructor to complete a full spread of 78 cards, learning different spreads and their interpretations.

 Each week, we will visit a different park or garden in our beautiful city. We will see hundreds of varieties of trees, both native and exotic. I will tell you how to recognize them and why they are special. We should also be able to spot around forty kinds of birds. Please bring along binoculars if you have a pair. Otherwise, a keen pair of eyes and a notebook will suffice. This course is not restricted to the AES community.
