General Entry Requirements
Applicants should meet the following guidelines:

Have a history of academic growth and appropriate personal conduct.

Demonstrate that their academic, social, and emotional growth can be met by AES.

Show that their development of English language skills can be met by AES.

Be eligible to graduate before their twentieth birthday.

Residing in New Delhi (NCR) with a parent or legal guardian.

Support the mission and vision of AES (along with parent/s or legal guardian) and will be enhanced by and benefit from the AES learning experience (applicant along with parent/s or legal guardian).

If an Indian citizen, to be eligible for admission, must meet the three guidelines set by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Government of India:

The parents of the student are not likely to stay in India for a period of more than two to three years.

The student should have come from an American or international system of education from outside of Delhi/NCR and intends to return to an American or international system of education.

The student is at a critical stage of education and studying at AES is important for the student’s success.

Nationality Guidelines
In order to preserve the cultural diversity of our student population, AES seeks to maintain—at every grade level—the average percentage of any nationality other than from the US to be no higher than 20%. Given the mobility of our population and in an effort to enroll siblings, this average is a target and not a fixed cap. While our language of instruction is English, AES also makes available a sophisticated English language acquisition program for students needing that additional support.
Priority Categories for Admissions
Applicants are considered in four priority categories. Seats are offered according to the date of application within each priority category. In keeping with Board policy, AES will always give priority to US citizens, however, cannot guarantee that a seat is available for all admissible Priority Category 1 applicants.

Guidelines for English as an Additional Language Admissions
The English as an Additional Language (EAL) program at AES is designed to support students who are acquiring English proficiency. AES has admissions guidelines for levels of academic English language proficiency; this may be assessed online during the application process.
Students who require EAL services will be charged according to the published fee schedule.

Extended Services Program
At AES, we believe that our entire community benefits from the inclusion of students with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Each student in the Extended Services Program (ESP) will have an educational plan that is designed to identify their strengths and to meet their individualized academic, social, and life-skill goals. This plan will be developed by an integrated team including members of the School Administration, the Special Education Teacher, Educational Psychologist, Occupational Therapist, Speech and Language Pathologist, and School Counselor.
The Extended Services Program classroom is a purpose-built space that helps facilitate individualized academic instruction and the teaching of functional, social, and life skills.
Frequently Asked Questions
What types of disabilities can the AES Extended Services Program support?
Our program is designed to support students with intensive needs—intellectual or developmental—including those with disabilities such as Autism Spectrum Disorder or Down Syndrome.
Does my child need a diagnosis to be accepted to the Extended Services Program?
Yes. Families who are applying for admission to the Extended Services Program must provide a Full Psychological Evaluation and a Speech and Language Evaluation, both completed within the last two years. The evaluation reports should include the child’s specific disabilities and diagnoses. An Individualized Education Plan (IEP) from the child’s current school will also be required. The admissions team may request additional information as needed. The evaluations and the IEP, as well as any requested additional information will provide AES the ability to determine if we can adequately support your child’s specific educational and social needs. Specific areas of admissions consideration will be self-care, safety, and medical needs.
What will my child’s schedule look like?
The elementary school day starts at 8:30 am and ends at 3:30 pm Monday through Friday—except Wednesdays when school ends at 2:30 pm.
Students in ESP will likely receive most of their academic instruction in the ESP classroom—ensuring the best teaching of their individualized lessons. To the greatest extent possible, all students will be integrated into their grade-level learning communities for social times such as snack, recess, and lunch. When appropriate, students will also join their grade-level learning communities for Specials such as music, art, and physical education. When ESP students join their grade-level learning communities, it will most often be with a Teaching Assistant from ESP who understands their individual needs and can provide accommodations to assist with integration.
ESP students may also meet with our Occupational Therapist and our Speech and Language Pathologist if it is a part of their individualized program.
What ages of students does the program support?
We are currently accepting applications for students that will be entering Grades 1–4 for the 2023–2024 academic year.
What is the cost of the Extended Service Program?
The Extended Services Program Fee is USD 23,800 and is in addition to the general AES tuition.
Why is there an additional fee?
As a nonprofit organization, all tuition fees and funds go directly back into the School to ensure the best quality education for our students. The Extended Services Program costs exceed those that our general tuition can cover; these costs include individualized educational programming created by trained professionals as well as specialized services, adaptive equipment, and purpose-built environments.

Minimum Age Guidelines
The age-cut off date at the American Embassy School, New Delhi is August 31.
Pre-Kindergarten 3: Students must turn three years old on or before August 31 of the year of attendance.
Pre-Kindergarten 4: Students must turn four years old on or before August 31 of the year of attendance.
Kindergarten: Students must turn five years old on or before August 31 of the year of attendance.
Grade 1: Students must turn six years old on or before August 31 of the year of attendance.
Students come to the American Embassy School from many different countries, differing school calendars, and schools with varying age cut-off dates. After careful review of an applicant’s age, school records, and academic history, accepted students are placed according to the AES curriculum, standards, and expectations.
In all cases, the final decision regarding admissions and placement rests with the AES Administration.
