ADMISSIONS POLICY (K-12)
Under the terms of a 1973 bilateral agreement between the governments of India and the United States of America, the American Embassy School was established to enable American children to study under the American system of education. While AES admissions policy reflects this mandate, our mission statement underscores our belief that a culturally diverse student body enriches the life of our school. The American Embassy School is not in competition with Indian schools, and is neither designed nor empowered to serve the needs of Indian students.
For any student to obtain Admission to AES the Administration must be satisfied that:
1. The student has a successful history of academic performance and appropriate personal conduct.
2. Any special needs of the student, including physical and/or learning disabilities, and development of English language skills can be met by AES.
3. The student would be eligible to graduate before his or her twentieth birthday.
Providing all of the above admission criteria are met, seats are held for U.S. citizens resident in Delhi and for children of overseas-based/overseas-hired staff of AES, even as the school moves to full capacity. Eligibility for all other nationalities (not Indian passport holders) is limited to children whose parents or legal guardians are temporarily relocated to India for employment purposes and are resident in Delhi. Parents or legal guardians of applicants must provide evidence of this status in the form of documentation from their employer stipulating the nature of their assignment in India. Persons who are self-employed must present compelling evidence of temporary residence before AES will consider their children for admission.
ADMISSIONS POLICY (EC 4)
Admission of children who meet the eligibility criteria shall be based on the date of receipt of a completed application, as per Policy 8.101, items 2, and 3, under subtitle “Admissions.” AES shall keep a ranked waiting list of those students who are not allocated a place by May 1 and who will be offered admission on first come first served basis when space becomes available. However, students holding U.S. passports and who meet the admissions criteria will be placed on the top of the waitlist in priority position by date of completed application and ahead of all other nationalities.
ADMISSIONS PRIORITY
When a student applies to AES and successfully meets our Admissions Criteria, students (categories 2-5) are then placed into a wait pool. Within each of the categories, students will be given priority based on the date on which the application process was completed. In keeping with its Mission statement, AES will release seats for students as specified in the order listed below:
The categories in order of priority are as follows:
1. US Citizens and Children of US Citizens (determined by valid US passport).
2. Siblings of students currently attending AES entitled to diplomatic, consular or official privileges (determined by valid diplomatic passport).
3. Siblings of students currently attending AES that are third country nationals (non-USA & non-Indian).
4. Students entitled to diplomatic, consular or official privileges (determined by valid diplomatic passport).
5. Students that are third country nationals (non-USA & non-Indian).
